A simple way to adapt your GRIB mechanisms to the Danish brick system of your choice (“who knows which one, could be any of them”).

For larger grids with high torque requirements, this is an effective way to deliver power consistently. Via the axle interface, you can connect up the grid to motors, hand cranks, or any other mechanism you design yourself.

why “barnacles”?

In GRIB, barnacles are simple modules that plug directly into the gear chain, rather than being loaded fully onto a drive.

They are called “barnacles” because they are small things that cling to the side of a larger thing.

open source

If you have a 3D printer, you may be able to make a version of this for free at home.

GRIB is open source. You can download the files and print a drive yourself.

An early access version of GRIB is currently only available to our Kickstarter backers. We expect to fully open-source version 1.0 in late August.

preorder

We’re currently fulfilling the original Kickstarter rewards. The estimated dispatch time for preorders is 7-8 weeks.

Each kit is manufactured in our workshop in Camden Town, London. We use lots of machines that make cool beeping sounds, and finish each kit by hand.

Kits will be dispatched in this order:

  • Kickstarter backers
  • Post-Kickstarter reservations (based on the date the reservation was made)
  • Preorders (based on the date of the preorder)

Kickstarter backers

If you’re a Kickstarter backer (thanks!), please be aware there may be small differences between the original reward tiers and the kits available here on whommart — make sure to check the product description.

consolidating orders

We may be able to bundle your order with your original Kickstarter reward — more info here.
